A fire at an eight-story, north-side apartment Saturday night sent a man to hospital.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue officials say they arrived at the Regent Street building at just after 8:30 p.m., responding to an automatic alarm.

Upon arrival fire crews detected smoke in the hallway, ordered a second alarm and located the source of the fire in a third-floor residence, where they found a lounge chair in flames.

The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished, but the victim, believed to be the resident of the apartment, was sent to hospital as a precaution.

His injuries, if any, are unknown.

Fire officials remained behind to ventilate the hallways from the third floor to the eighth.

The cause of the fire remains officially unknown at this time, as the investigation continues.
