Alleged armed laundromat robber facing multiple charges

THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay Police have arrested a 27-year-old woman in conjunction with an April 17 armed robbery at Barb’s Laundromat on Victoria Avenue.

Police say the suspect covered her face and approached the female cashier on duty with a gun, demanding money. The suspect fled on foot and was followed by the clerk. The suspect then allegedly turned and pointed the weapon at the clerk, threatening her.

Police were called and told the suspect had entered a building on the 100 block of South Norah Street. Police located the suspect and arrested her without incident.

A pellet gun believed to have been used in the robbery was located in the basement of the building.

Ashley Hoard has been charged with several offences, including robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent, weapons dangerous, imitation firearm – use to commit, imitation firearm – use during flight, pointing firearm, uttering threats and breach of recognizance.

Hoard appeared in court over the weekend and was remanded until her next court appearance, scheduled for Monday.
