THUNDER BAY -- Hydro customers could be in for a surprise on their next bill.
Thunder Bay Hydro has announced a rate increase starting next month. As of May 1 rates will rise nearly 5.7 per cent for residential and small business hydro users. More than 4.5 per cent of that increase comes from provincial changes to the time-of-use rates. However, Thunder Bay Hydro applied for and received an additional rate increase of just over one per cent from the Ontario Energy Board.
A typical household will see their monthly bill go up by nearly $7. A typical business customer will see an increase of about $17.
