Kenora police follow driver through several residential blocks before making impaired driving arrest

OPP News Release (KENORA, ON) – On Monday April 27, 2015 shortly before 9:00 pm, members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the downtown area of Kenora.

(KENORA, ON) – On Monday April 27, 2015 shortly before 9:00 pm, members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the downtown area of Kenora.  

Police located the suspect vehicle driving eastbound on Second Street South around 10:00 pm and attempted a vehicle stop. 

The driver did not stop for the marked police vehicle with its emergency lights activated.  Police followed the vehicle until it came to a stop at a residence several blocks away.   

As a result of this investigation, the driver, 73 year old Willie MATHIS of Kenora has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:

•        Impaired Driving contrary to section 253(1)(a)
•        Drive with More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood contrary to section 254(1)(b)
The accused was released and is to appear in Kenora Court on May 28, 2015.
The accused has also been charged with Fail to Stop for Police contrary to section 216 of the Highway Traffic Act.   He is to appear in Provincial Offences court on June 4, 2015.
