Hard times: Survey ranks city 68th of 95 hardest places to live in Canada

THUNDER BAY – This city isn't the hardest place in the country to live, but it's not even close to easy. That's according to a Mowat Centre study that ranks the district 68 out of 95 for hardest places to live in Canada.

THUNDER BAY – This city isn't the hardest place in the country to live, but it's not even close to easy.

That's according to a Mowat Centre study that ranks the district 68 out of 95 for hardest places to live in Canada.

Replicating a study done by the New York Times for the U.S., the Canadian study used Canadian Health Regions with factors like household income, unemployment obesity, mental health and other factors.

Nunavut came in at 95 as the hardest place to live while the York region took number one.

Researchers point out that the original plan was to rank 117 health regions but only had sufficient data for 95.

But if Thunder Bay is a hard place to live, it appears not to be having a significant impact on happiness. A Statistics Canada study released in April showed that Thunder Bay residents were among some of the happiest in the country.
