Pair of Manitoba tobacco smugglers arrested

(KENORA, ON) – On Monday May 25, 2015 at around 12:00 a.m members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17A. 

When dealing with the driver of the vehicle, police determined the female driver and male passenger were transporting a quantity of unmarked cigarettes. A search of the vehicle located approximately 80,000 cigarettes, 11 grams of marijuana and a small amount of cocaine. The tobacco’s estimated value is $24,000.

The driver of the vehicle, Lucinda LAJOIE age 60 and Todd CALBACK age 48 from Winnipeg are charged with Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, Possession of a Schedule II Substance-Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams and Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Cocaine under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Further charges under the Tobacco Taxes Act are pending.

Both are to appear in court on July 2, 2015 to answer to the charges.
