Family of Catherine Gowan glad to ‘finally’ see case of girl’s death opened after 25 years (UPDATE)

Police are now investigating the death a girl in Manitouwadge 25 years ago as a homicide. Catherine Gowan died when she was 15 on July 8, 1990. The case remained cold as no foul play was originally suspected in the girl’s death.

Police are now investigating the death a girl in Manitouwadge 25 years ago as a homicide.

Catherine Gowan died when she was 15 on July 8, 1990. The case remained cold as no foul play was originally suspected in the girl’s death.

But on Tuesday OPP officials confirmed that they are re-examining the case after new information was discovered. 

In a short news release issued to media Tuesday afternoon, OPP officials confirmed that the case was being led by Det.-Insp. Peter Loree of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

Police say the victim was located in a residence on Adjala Avenue in Manitouwadge on July 8, 1990.

When contacted by Thunder Bay Television, a family member of Catherine simply stated she was “glad something is finally being done.”
