THUNDER BAY – A south-side apartment building has suffered damage after a Sunday afternoon fire.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews responded to an apartment building on Moodie Street, where a fire had broken out on the third floor.
Platoon Chief Joe Grzelewski said the fire was contained to the single unit, which was unoccupied at the time.
“We quickly played out a line and put the fire out,” he said. “There was a little bit of smoke damage throughout that level but I would say it’s minor in nature.”
A second alarm and aerial ladder were called as a precaution but were quickly cleared as fire crews controlled the blaze.
Nobody was injured as a result.
However, the fire did result in a few anxious moments for Kevin Aunger, who lives on the first floor.
He wasn’t home at the time of the fire but his dog, Ozzy, was inside the apartment.
A firefighter carried the Labrador-cross out of the building to reunite him with his relieved owner.
“I was scared,” he said. “I’m glad he’s OK. He’s just happy to see us.”
The investigation into the cause is ongoing.
