THUNDER BAY - A family of ducks crossing the highway played a role in a crash that has a man in hospital with critical injuries.

Four vehicles, including a motorcycle, were involved in the incident, which occurred just north of the Oliver Road intersection shortly after noon on Monday.

OPP Provincial Const. Diana Cole said a family of ducks crossing the highway started the chain reaction.

“That driver reduced her speed as she observed the ducks and from there a motorcycle also northbound struck the vehicle from behind,” Cole said.

“The motorcycle driver was ejected from his motorcycle and landed on the pavement of the northbound lane.”

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with what have been described as critical injuries. There was no update on his condition Tuesday.

The OPP continue to investigate.
