THUNDER BAY – The 18-year-old man accused of viciously assaulting a woman to death is now facing a murder charge.

Cruz Pelletier appeared via video at the Thunder Bay Courthouse on Friday where his charge was elevated from aggravated assault to second degree murder following the death of 22-year-old Larissa Charlie-Stillaway on Wednesday.

Pelletier was initially charged with aggravated assault when arrested following the Tuesday morning attack at the Totem Trailer Court on Chippewa Road that sent Charlie-Stillaway to hospital with critical injuries.

Witnesses called 911 reporting she was unconscious and covered in blood on the ground outside a residence. Pelleiter was found and arrested a short distance away.

Pelletier is scheduled to appear in court again on July 10.
