THUNDER BAY – New policies for city social housing will prohibit smoking and limit the number of pets a tenant can own.

The Thunder Bay District Social Services Board recently announced it had approved both policies.

Each household will now be allowed a maximum of two pets, and those animals will be restricted from common gathering areas and laundry rooms.

The new policy on smoking prohibits smoking or the holding of lit tobacco inside all DSSAB owned and operated buildings, including private areas, balconies, patios and common areas.

The policy changes apply to newcomers to DSSAB housing.

Current tenants are being exempted from the new smoking policy, and will not have to get rid of any pets that exceed the limit of two, but will not be able to add any new pets.
