The city is adding a new manager as its solid waste strategy shapes up.

Under the comprehensive solid waste management strategy, approved in principle by city council last year, a new solid waste services division would be created, currently operating through the city's roads department.

That division's solid waste and recycling services manager position was approved in the current budget with a salary range between $90,000 and $106,000 and has been posted to the city's website.

It's one of five new positions proposed in the strategy. The other four are subject to council approval in the next few years.

"Depending on how we structure providing that service," Roads Division manager Brad Adams said.

The management position is similar to what other municipalities have in place, Adams said.

The city is also hiring a contract coordinator. Community services manager Michael Smith said the new position is a realignment within his department. The coordinator would prepare contracts, provide cost estimates and administration for the city's capital projects.
