THUNDER BAY – An inquest to probe the death of two men at the district jail is expected to go ahead in the fall.

The regional supervising coroner for inquests announced on Tuesday a joint inquest into the deaths of Ronald Fagan and Jacy Pierce, who both died while in custody at the Thunder Bay District Jail in 2007, will begin on Sept. 8.

Fagan, 21, died at the jail on Sept. 27 while Pierre, 27, died exactly one month later on Oct. 27.

The inquest is expected to last two weeks and will hear from nearly 30 witnesses.

Dr. Michael Wilson will be the presiding coroner. The jury may make recommendations to help prevent similar deaths.
