48-year-old man dead, woman in critical condition following Highway crash

OPP News Release

(IGNACE, ON) – On Sept. 9, 2015 at approximately 9 a.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Ignace Detachment officers were dispatched to a head on motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 approximately 40 km East of Ignace. 

Ignace officers are being assisted by officers from the Thunder Bay and Upsala Detachments as well as a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) and the Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) out of Thunder Bay.

The collision occurred after an eastbound Toyota Rav4 crossed the centre line and collided with a westbound Nissan Pathfinder head on. 

The driver of the Toyota Rav4 was deceased at the scene and was identified as Bimal Adhikari, 48, of Kenora. 

The female passenger of the Toyota Rav4 is in critical condition and the other male passenger of the Toyota Rav4 is in stable condition at this time. 

They were transported to Thunder Bay and Dryden for medical care

The driver and passenger of the Nissan Pathfinder suffered serious injuries, but are in stable condition. 

They were transported to Thunder Bay for medical care.
The post mortem examination of Bimal ADHIKARI is scheduled for the 10 September 2015.
