THUNDER BAY – Police have identified the man arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run this weekend.

Anthony Paul Marino, 41, is facing a charge of failing to remain at the scene of an early Saturday morning collision that killed 20-year-old pedestrian Stacy Kejick at the intersection of Court and Wilson streets.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers apprehended Marino in the Harbour Expressway and Memorial Avenue area shortly after the incident.

Marino was initially charged with dangerous driving but the Crown dropped the charge on Monday morning due to insufficient evidence.

"There was some initial information gathered by some officers that made that charge seem to be applicable but now that we've taken a closer look at it, the 252 charge (failure to remain) is the only one we're going to proceed with," said police traffic Sgt. Glenn Porter.

"This is an ongoing investigation. We're still seeking to speak to any and all witnesses. There are people who are still coming forward. We're going in steps. We're going with what we have."

Officers are still encouraging witnesses to contact police, in particular the two men in a red Ford pickup truck who called 911 immediately after the collision.

Thunder Bay Const. Carlson can be reached at 632-1820 and Const. Snyder is at 629-9101.
