THUNDER BAY – Police continue to search for a black pickup truck that struck a pedestrian on the city’s north side Wednesday night.

A 25-year-old woman was walking southbound on the west side of Cumberland Street around 9:30 p.m. when she attempted to walk around a puddle at the intersection of Gibson Street and was hit by the truck, which fled the scene.

“The witnesses say it was a large black pickup truck, probably with dual rear wheels and an extended cab,” Thunder Bay Police Traffic Sgt. Glenn Porter said.

“We’re looking to speak with the driver or any other witnesses who might have seen something but haven’t made a statement to the police yet.”

The woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Porter urged drivers to be cautious, especially as the temperatures are expected to drop and freeze wet roadways.

“It’s a dangerous few days we’re looking at. We have a lot of ice on the roads and we have people that are dashing about trying to get last minute details and doing the socializing that comes with the holidays,” he said.

“We would just like to remind everybody to drive with their head in the game. They have to be thinking about what they’re doing.”
