UPDATE: Man faces numerous charges after standoff with city police

The Thunder Bay Police were called to deal with a 35 year old male causing a disturbance in an apartment located in in the 300 block of South Syndicate Ave. following a confrontation with a 45 year old male in the common area of the building.

Officers arrived to find the male had barricaded himself inside his apartment and could hear a disturbance ongoing. The officers made several attempts to have him come out of the apartment with no success. The male made several threats while speaking to the officers. As a result, the TBPS Emergency Task Unit and Incident Command Team were dispatched to the area along with Fire and EMS services.

At 2:25 a.m. the male exited his apartment without incident after ongoing negotiations with members of the Emergency Task Unit. He was taken into custody and escorted to the Balmoral Police Station.

Sidney Dwayne McAlpine has been charged with Assault, Uttering Threats, Mischief Under $5,000, Breach of Probation and Breach of Recognizance.

He appeared in court this morning and has been remanded into custody.
