THUNDER BAY – Police are investigating the city’s first murder of 2016.
The Thunder Bay Police Service confirmed a 36-year-old woman has been arrested after a 40-year-old woman was found dead in a John Street home Wednesday morning.
“A 911 call was received for an ambulance to be sent to the 900 block of John Street and when ambulance arrived they immediately contacted police to start an investigation,” police spokeswoman Const. Julie Tilbury said, adding the call was made by a neighbour around 10 a.m.
Tilbury could not comment on whether the victim was dead at the time of paramedics’ arrival or the cause of death.
The identities of the victim as well as the woman in custody are not being released pending notification next of kin.
Tilbury would not answer if the victim and person arrested are known to each other.
“At this point in time it’s still very early in the investigation and it’s a fluid investigation so that information is not available at this time,” she said.
