THUNDER BAY – Two suspects charged in a July 2014 homicide case outside city hall have pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

Kyle Stoney and Carl Rae, who both previously faced second-degree murder charges in the death of 52-year-old Christopher Adams, appeared at the Thunder Bay Courthouse Monday afternoon.

Stoney pleaded guilty to manslaughter while Rae pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm.

Adams was found severely injured outside city hall during the morning of July 1, 2014 by a passerby, who called police and paramedics.

He was rushed to hospital where he died a week later on July 8.

Rae and a woman were arrested shortly after the incident. Charges against her have since been withdrawn.

Stoney was arrested more than four months later in November.

At the time, police speculated robbery might have been a motive in the assault.

Facts of the case were not read in court.

Sentencing submissions will be made in court on April 18.

Note to readers: This is a corrected version of the story. A previous version incorrectly stated Rae pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
