THUNDER BAY -- Ontario's only Indigenous Member of Parliament has been tapped for the Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Standing Committee.

Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Don Rusnak was appointed to the 10-member committee on Tuesday. Its membership includes six Liberal MPs, three Conservatives and one member of the NDP.

"We ran on a platform of improving life for Northern and Indigenous people in Canada and we are committed to keeping that promise," Rusnak said in a release.

"I am honoured to be part of a committee that will be working on some key issues that affect communities in our riding and across Canada."

Rusnak and his colleagues will hold their first meeting on Feb. 4.
