THUNDER BAY -- A 38-year-old Fort Hope man visiting Thunder Bay is dead and a 33-year-old woman is behind bars and charged with second-degree murder in his death.

Thunder Bay Police,Service officers responded to a call for assistance at about 1:25 a.m. Saturday at the Victoria Inn Hotel, where they found the male victim on the floor in a second-floor hallway. The man was transported to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre suffering from obvious trauma. He was pronounced dead at 2:08 a.m.

"When they arrived, there was a male who was in some sort of trauma -- had been the victim of crime. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately was deceased on arrival," said police spokesman Chris Adams.

Police say the suspect, of no fixed address, faces several charges in addition to the murder charge, including breach of recognizance and breach of probation.

She is scheduled to appear in court via video on Sunday, and won't be named until that time. The victim's name is also being withheld until next-of-kin can be notified.

"They had been known to each other but it was a very short relationship," Adams said.

It's the city's third murder of 2016, equalling the number of homicides in all of 2015.
