THUNDER BAY -- A food-borne illness that affected at least four people has been traced back to a sushi bar at the Real Canadian Superstore in Thunder Bay.

Officials at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Wednesday said all four victims who have reported the illness said they purchased and consumed food from Bento Sushi on March 28.

The illness was characterized by vomiting, diarrhea and weakness, and occurred within four or five horus of eating the meal.
Symptoms lasted an average of 24 hours.

The illnesses don’t appear to be serious enough to hospitalize any of the victims.

The health unit says a thorough inspection of the sushi bar has taken place and it remains open for business.

“Food samples are being processed by Public Health Ontario Laboratories in an attempt to identify an pathogenic agent.”

The health unit would like to speak with anyone who may have eaten or purchased food from Bento Sushi on Monday.

“If you still have any food from that Bento Sushi location, do not consume it. The health unit may want to test it.”

To contact a health inspector, phone 625-5930.
