Police bust nearly $1 million drug operation

THUNDER BAY - A six-month investigation between Ontario and Manitoba authorities has led to the seizure of nearly $1 million in drugs.

THUNDER BAY - A six-month investigation between Ontario and Manitoba authorities has led to the seizure of nearly $1 million in drugs.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers from their intelligence unit executed warrants at three north side addresses, one of them being Pawn City on Red River Road, last Friday after a joint investigation with the OPP as well as the Ontario and Manitoba ministries of finance.

Police say the operators of Pawn City and the business are not involved in the suspected drug operation.

Officers seized nearly $900,000 in marijuana and hash oil along with $8,200 in illegal cigarettes, $13,000 cash and one long arm gun.

Police also seized a transport truck, travel trailer, sport utility vehicle and a pickup truck.

Charges have been laid against three men.

  • Steven LALONDE 38 years of Thunder Bay: faces two counts of Trafficking in Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana for the purpose of Trafficking, Trafficking in Unstamped Tobacco x3 against the Excise Act and Trafficking in Unstamped Tobacco x 3 against the Criminal Code.
  • Sam ELLIOT 51 years of Caledon: Charged with Possession for the purpose of Trafficking in Marijuana and Trafficking in Marijuana.
  • A third 56-year-old Thunder Bay Male has been charged with Trafficking in marijuana, Trafficking in Unstamped Tobacco x 2 against the Excise Act, Trafficking in Unstamped Tobacco x 2 against the Criminal Code he has been released with a future court date.
