THUNDER BAY - The city-wide fire ban has been lifted.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue chief John Hay confirmed late Monday afternoon the ban, which had been in place for more than a week, was being rescinded effective immediately.

The ban had been implemented prior to the May long weekend due to dry conditions throughout the city at the request of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Wet conditions experienced during the course of the weekend appear to have decreased the wildfire risk.

All valid outdoor permits are reinstated. Residents are reminded to follow permit rules and regulations or risk facing prosecution.

Also Monday, the Ministry of Natural Resources lifted the regional restricted fire zone which had been in place for much of the month. That order takes effect as of 6 p.m.
