THUNDER BAY -- Where there is smoke, there is not always fire.

A smoking microwave caused the TownePlace Suites Mariott to be evacuated late Monday night.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was called to the hotel around 10:50 p.m. to respond to reports that one room on the second floor had filled with smoke.

Hotel staff accounted for all evacuees in the parking lot using its guest list and re-opened the doors by 11:25 p.m.

Firefighters on scene confirmed there was no fire and no one was injured. The incident was a result of burnt food in a microwave.
