THUNDER BAY – The suspect charged in the killing of a 20-year-old man outside a city movie theatre is scheduled to go to trial next year.

Shane Patrick Ashpanaquestcum, charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Daniel Randall Levac, is set to go to trial in front of judge and jury on May 8, 2017.

Emergency responders were called to the Silvercity theatres on Oct. 3, 2014 where they found Levac suffering from a stab wound.

Lifesaving procedures were attempted and he died shortly after being brought to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Ashpanaquestcum, who was said to have matched the description of the suspect, was arrested by Thunder Bay Police Service officers a short distance away from the theatre and allegedly was in possession of a weapon.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
