THUNDER BAY – The district’s humane society is in a state of crisis.
Officials with the Thunder Bay District Humane Society on Monday issued a media release confirming that they are dealing with mass overcrowding at the Rosslyn Road facility.
The overcrowding came after the rescue of 23 abandoned cats and another 50 cats not related to that incident.
The City of Thunder Bay’s animal services has assisted the Humane Society by housing some of the rescued cats from a hoarding situation, but the Humane Society is now looking to have those cats transferred to their location despite the current situation.
“We have also slashed our adoption prices to a quarter of the cost to help move some of these animals out for adoption,” reads a news release issued by the Humane Society.
“Several of the rescued animals in the recent hoarding situation require immediate medical care, medication, and surgery due to the ongoing neglect they suffered.”
The state of crisis has led the Humane Society to apply for funding from the Pet Smart charities to help alleviate some of the unforeseen costs.
“We are hoping that the City of Thunder Bay and the public can come forward to help assist with the current crisis situation.”
