Wacky Wings co-owner says the restaurant should be ready to open its doors by October.

City council approved a zoning bylaw amendment of the former Port Arthur Prosvita in March 2015, which paved the way for the city to receive the Sault Ste. Marie-based restaurant chain Wacky Wings.

The construction couldn’t immediately move forward as neighbourhood opposition, which centered on parking and noise concerns, led to an Ontario Municipal Board appeal. That appeal was eventually settled, which allowed the chain to continue with its development.

Wacky Wings owner Craig Burgess said his team is six weeks into the first phase of construction on the building.

“We’ve literally demolished the entire inside of the building,” Burgess said outside the former Prosvita Monday afternoon. “We are doing a complete makeover for the entire premises.”

Burgess added that once the construction is well underway they will begin looking at marketing and hiring plans.

If all goes according to plan, Wacky Wings could open its doors during the first week of October.

The 1,500 square foot building will feature interactive games, sports bar, a full restaurant menu, and billiard tables.

“One of the biggest features will be the largest (Wacky Wings) licensed sports television viewing screen north of Toronto,” Burgess said. “It’s basically a one stop shop for fun.”
