At least one local man became victimized by a major vehicle theft that took place at a classic car show in St. Paul, Minn.

Gerald Chartier brought his two-door 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS to the Street Machine Nationals this past weekend. Unfortunately for Chartier, his car was one of at least nine stolen from the show.

Chartier spoke to CKPR Radio Thursday afternoon, and said his car was stolen between 2 and 5 a.m. Sunday from the hotel parking lot he was staying at for the classic car show.

“My car was parked among all the other cars,” Chartier said. “I guess they just happened to pick mine.”

But Chartiers’ muscle car wasn’t the only one selected by auto thieves. In total nine cars participating in the car show were targeted by thieves.

All the missing vehicles were reported stolen from the hotels their owners were staying at and not the car show itself.

“I put a lot of time in building this car right from the ground up,” he said. “Every nut and bolt I changed.

“It sure takes the wind out of your sails,” Chartier added about his feelings immediately after learning his car had been taken. “You basically go numb.”

At least one car has been recovered, unfortunately a Facebook post tracking the situation reported that the vehicle had been “torched”
