Plane crashes outside of Marathon, pilot rescued

(MARATHON, ON) – On July 22, 2016 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the Town of Marathon was contacted by the pilot of an Advanced Ultralight aircraft which had crashed approximately 8km north of Marathon at Jim Lake.

(MARATHON, ON) – On July 22, 2016 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the Town of Marathon was contacted by the pilot of an Advanced Ultralight aircraft which had crashed approximately 8km north of Marathon at Jim Lake.

Marathon OPP officers, with the assistance of members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Superior North Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Wilderness Helicopters attended the area of the crash and located the sole occupant of the plane, a 50-year-old male from Marathon, Ontario.

The pilot had non-life threatening injuries and was subsequently transported by EMS for medical care.

Transport Canada was contacted and will be investigating this incident.
