THUNDER BAY – An automobile/pedestrian collision is being blamed on a 45-year-old woman walking outside of a marked crosswalk area.

Thunder Bay Police say the 9 a.m. Thursday incident took place at the intersection of Cumberland Street and Red River Road, where the woman attempted to cross the street, but was struck by a pick-up truck driven by a 57-year-old man.

The woman, who was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, was charged with a violation of a city bylaw regulating pedestrian traffic at or near an intersection.

Police remind the public that intersections are busy places and extra care and alertness is required at all times.

“Pedestrians always get the worst of it when struck by a vehicle,” said traffic Sgt. Glenn Porter in a release issued on Thursday.
