(THUNDER BAY,ON)- On August 1, 2016 the Marine Unit from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol in the area of the Thunder Bay Marina when a call for assistance was received from the Sarnia Coast Guard Communications Centre.

The OPP Marine Unit as well as the Canadian Coast Guard responded immediately.

It was reported that a vessel with two persons on board had experienced engine problems and the vessel had begun taking on water.

The location provided was very vague and other vessels in the area began to assist with the search.

The vessel and occupants were located to the east, outside of the Harbour break wall.

The two occupants were taken onboard and escorted back to shore by the OPP Marine Unit. The vessel was towed back to shore.
