Northern Development Minister Michael Gravelle says he'll continue working with First Nations around the Ring of Fire to build a transportation route into the area.

This after a new study concluded that some of the Matawa communities aren't ready to give the green light to an all-season road through their traditional territory.

The $780,000 study was jointly funded last year by the federal and provincial governments to look at the feasibility of a road from Pickle Lake to four communities west of the Ring of Fire.

Gravelle discussed the results of the study with the Matawa communities last month.

According to media reports, the four First Nations are concerned about who will own the road.

They want to carry out more studies on the options, before endorsing a route crossing through their traditional hunting, fishing and trapping areas.

Gravelle says the province can't move ahead without a willing partner, and he's willing to continue the conversations with the communities involved.
