Crossover open houses scheduled for two September dates

THUNDER BAY – The public will have a chance to give feedback on planned crossovers on city streets.

A pair of open houses has been scheduled by the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee to bring together residents and city staff to discuss the proposed change to provincial crossover legislation.

Earlier this month city council reluctantly gave the go-ahead for a crossover at the intersection of Algoma Street and Cornwall Avenue.

Several councillors at the time said they hoped the pilot project would have been slated for the Simpson and Heron street intersection, near the NorWest Community Health Centre, a plan favoured by the Accessibility Committee.

The open houses, scheduled for Sept. 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Italian Convention Centre and Sept. 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Victoria Inn, will point out the differences between crosswalks and crossovers, what pedestrians need to know in order to use them and accessibility issues related to crossovers.

Anyone seeking further information on the event can contact Scott Garner at 625-2240.
