KENORA, Ont. -- The office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario has decided not to hold an inquest into the death of a Kenora teenager this past winter.

Delaine Copenace, 16, was reported missing on Feb. 28 after she was last seen in the downtown area of Kenora.

Her body was found three weeks later in the water of Lake of the Woods near an OPP station.

A post mortem found no evidence of foul play, and the coroner determined the cause of death was drowning.

Copenace's family called for an inquest, because of their unanswered questions about her death.

Chief coroner's spokesperson Cheryl Mahyr says every death is considered for an inquest.

But she adds that the purpose is to find answers to the cause or means of death, or allow a jury to make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.

Based on that criteria, she says an inquest was deemed not necessary in this case.
