A bill to end the long gun registry passed its second reading on Parliament Hill Wednesday evening. NDP MPs Bruce Hyer (Thunder Bay-Superior North) and John Rafferty (Thunder Bay-Rainy River) voted for the Conservative private member’s bill as did Conservative MP Greg Rickford (Kenora). The motion passed 164-137.

Michael Ignatieff, Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe voted against it. The bill will now be referred to the Standing Committee of Public Safety and National Security.

The only way this law will work is that we the people have the rite to have an NRA club in
canada , what we have is laws that are not for the average person, we need more power to insure that we as canadians have our rites
to bear arms for our selves , for our own protection and for our country and not to
give our rites away to people who come here to destroy our way of life, a proud canuck

It's so they can take our guns and disarm us.
It's no new thing. Governments have been trying to disarm people for like ever.

If one studies history, you can see it's always the same.
Disarm the people, then round them up. \
I'm surprised more people don't see that. Especially the older people who have seen this kind of thing in their lifetime.
In places like Germany and Russia.

Northern guy you fail to understand that the criminals do not follow the laws.
They do whatever they want regardless of the law until they get caught and punished.
There is very little good coming from this long gun registration as only the honest Joe is abiding by the law , the criminals do not care about it.
I hope to god the police don't use the registry to see if a residence has any guns , they would be fools to think that all are registered and put lives in danger.
The registry was for honest people only , the criminals will have guns and such regardless ,unless there is a total ban on posession of them and that will never happen.
I have a posession licence and that is really all that is needed , the police checked me out and I am not a criminal so no problem.
Lets stop wasting funds on BS laws that can never fulfill their intended purpose.

This is nothing short of shameful behaviour on behalf of Rafferty and Hyer. There is a reason why Canada has proportionally less gun crimes and accidents per year then those countries without strict gun laws.

If the gun registry goes that will hurt the social fabric of the entire country.

This is a sad day for Canada. This law will help a VERY small group of people while having negative effects on more. Even the police are against this.

This is a prime example of politics getting in the way of good public policy.
