Local police officers responded to almost 30 vehicle collisions since 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Thunder Bay Police Service reports that its car crash count is up to 28 as drivers continues navigating roads following the area’s first significant snow fall. Most of the crashes reported are described as fender-benders.

In response to the snow and the crashes that followed, Thunder Bay Police Service have sent out its tip for having a safe winter season:
  • Slow down – drive according to the conditions.
  • Allow more space between you and other vehicles.
  • Anticipate your stops – start slowing down before you get to the intersection.
  • Check your tires for proper inflation and tread depth.
  • Snow tires are the best option for winter driving.
  • Clear your windows before you drive.
  • Limit your travel if the snow begins to fly.
  • Keep your distractions while driving to a minimum.

If you become involved in a collision, police ask you to remember the following:

  • Any collision with injury or combined damage of more than $1,000 must be reported to police immediately.
  • Call police for direction and assistance as to how to best report the collision.
  • You may be directed to report to the Collision Reporting Centre at 1200 Balmoral Street.

At the best of times this city is full of "nascar wannabee's" and until people like that dummy up we will be left looking at or involved in their accidents.
Common sense is lacking in many drivers in this town lol.
They are not a smart bunch to say the least and easily try to point the finger of blame at anyone but them.

It should really say thunder bay drivers are terrible. 28 accidents are low? It should say that the roads are slick but no one got in an accident. Give the person space, give time to get to your destination but no on here does that. The roads were terrible this morning and i was doing 50 down a road and someone passed me and went flying by going about 70 or more. This is reckless and will get someoen killed, grow up and drive properly, i know better and im 17

Melba - do you not pay attention in the months where the "white stuff" isn't on the ground. Drivers in this city have the same grace as a moth. I came to this web page specifically to find out how many clueless residents ended up banging into each other. 28 is low.

And on that note...if you're scared to be out or not driving an adequate vehicle, stay in the slow lane and don't become an unnecessary obstacle for the rest of us.

So I see once again without fail that Thunder Bay drivers have forgotten once again what the white stuff is and what it does to the raod. SLOW DOWN!!!!!! Give lots of space for stopping. I am not worried about you I am worried for the person that you are going to rear end.
