Keith Hobbs was wading in the water Wednesday to promote the city.

The mayor took a stroll through the splash pad at Prince Arthur’s Landing for a photo shoot. The photo will run in Thunder Bay Experience magazine. Hobbs said he’s been doing a shoot yearly since he became mayor.

“It’s sent to all different cities throughout North America and it promotes Thunder Bay,” he said.

The magazine is also stacked in area hotels. Hobbs said he wanted to feature the waterfront this year because of how popular the renovated spot has been. The city estimates the marina has seen more than 60,000 people between Blues Fest, Festival of India and Canada Day.

“Just for those events and it’s just been phenomenal what’s happened down here at the waterfront,” he said.

It was Hobbs’ first time in the splash pad.

“It was not bad. The water wasn’t too bad at all.”

The magazine will be on shelves in December.

cut crime, cut taxes, fix the roads... wading in the pad accomplished nothing for the 110,000 residents of TBay.

why not look up the role of the mayor in Canada before showing off your ignorance.

Just a fast question loundmouth101. What have you done for the city of Thunder Bay lately? The mayor doesn't have exclusivity on things around here.

It actually symbolizes a great summer many of us had down at the waterfront due to the work of council and the waterfront committee. I guess you would be in the minority that didn't make it down there this year; hopefully we'll see you there next summer!

boosting tourism helps the local economy, which generates funds for all of the things you suggested need to be done.

LOL! this will not promote Thunder Bay. all it promotes is Hobb's shameless ego. perhaps he discovered for the first time the 'fountain of truth'...the truth that the marina money pit is going to strap generations to come with high tax burdens.

I think it's great that Mr. Hobbs is not spending all his time behind closed doors, out of the public eye. Being out in the community makes him both visible and accessible to thunder bay residents, and can provide an opportunity for average folk to meet him, and maybe suggest some of their ideas about improving the city.

Loudmouth101, don't be such a "Debbie-Downer!"
Everyone needs some time to unwind and let loose!

Here is an idea. Now that you have built a Marina that can hold a variety of events build PARKING areas. Being bused there from the mall or the auditorium is not family friendly and walking a couple of kilometres after a movie with kids, chairs and blankets isn't that fun.
It will only get worse when the condos and hotel are up so please come up with a realistic solution.

How dare he spend a half hour doing something to promote the city. I want to keep all of my tax money so I can buy adult DVDs and hand-blown glassware instead.

Oh give me a break..can't you leave Mayor Hobbs alone..I'm sorry you think he's superman. I think he's doing the best he can with what he has after all he has the 7 dwarfs and 4 at large trolls to work with.I think its honorable that he's doing the photographs of around the city, its more than the previous excuse-of-a-mayor we had.

Wow and what did it cost for the mayor to take a whimsical walk in the splashpad. NOTHING! Shows we have a mayour who isnt stuck on himself, funloving of maybe you want someone like Toronto's Ford. LOL. Think of all the free publicity this gives the city.

You are right in the the sense that it didn't cut crime, taxes or fix the road but it sure has been a positive addition to the waterfront...so let's try to appreciate that. Thousands of people were drawn to the marina to enjoy the splash pad this summer and it made an awful lot of children happy.

GIVE ME A BREAK HOBBS ! YOU MAY APPEAR A CLOWN BUT WE ARE NOT FOOLS AND WE WILL REMEMBER> The marina park project is a pathetic fiasco , built against the majority of the citizens of the city and a cliche photo in the concrete pond of water and chlorine is not a big enough illusion to bandage the truth . The funds from other critical projects are side streamed to go repair the unending blunders and the egos of the city councillors for their Marina dream. YOUR BS DOESNT FLY WITH US DESPITE ALL YOUR SPIN !! COME ON OPEN YOUR EYES The city is a mess !! Our streets are falling apart, the sewers are flooding, bike lanes are a joke, beautification plan is pathetic, buildings look shabby and derelict. THIS COUNCIL HAS NOT HELPED US and we dont buy your ridiculous photo ops .

oh jd. boo hoo for walking, a little exersice never hurt anyone. if they make parking lots, i'm sure they will charge for it. be thankfull they provide transportation, not sure if its free of charge if it is perfect. but come to a large city, you have to pay for parking anywhere you go which runs from 5$ up to 30$ a day. so don't complain. be thankful that you don't have to pay.

People would probably be less critical of the Mayor if his entire campaign had not been about doing things that he can't do. He hasn't been able to deliver on almost anything he said he would.

That does make him a good politition though. Sadly, all the people that voted for him didn't want a politition.
