THUNDER BAY -- For the next year or so, Krista Pelechaty doesn’t have to worry about digging through her purse in search of change at the Tim Hortons drive-through.

The local woman and a friend snapped a picture of herself drinking a cup of Tim’s coffee with the Sleeping Giant as a backdrop, submitted to a Facebook contest sponsored by the Canadian company, and won a $600 gift card that will keep her in steeped tea and bagels for months.

“They were looking for people to enter pictures from their region that displays something from their own hometown that you don’t see anywhere else,” said Pelechaty, who guessed she visits Tim Hortons a couple of times a week at least.

“I enjoy taking pictures already, so I knew right away I wanted to take a picture of the Sleeping Giant. So I arranged with a friend to go up to Hillcrest Park and she helped me take a picture of me drinking my Tim’s coffee in front of the Sleeping Giant.”

She said there was no question what landmark she would choose to pose in front of for her contest entry photo.

“I’ve was raised here all my life. I love the Sleeping Giant. Every day I see it coming to work. I’ve taken many pictures of the Sleeping Giant so I can enjoy it,” Pelechaty said.
