THUNDER BAY -- Homelessness in this city takes many forms.
While those living on the street do represent a portion of the homeless population, the problem is much bigger than that.
The first of three town hall meetings was held Wednesday night at the Finlandia Club to discuss and educate the public on what the current situation of homelessness is. The first meeting focused on housing programs and the criminal justice system.
Salvation Army Executive director Rob Kerr says the homeless problem is growing in the city, and a big issue is trying to find a way to keep the homeless out of prison and get them into homes.
The second and third public forums will be held on June 26 and Sept. 11at the Finlandia Club.
Those townhalls are expected to address health and costs on the taxpayers caused by homelessness.
