NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has said there are no talks of more expansion teams.

The topic has come up a number of times concerning cities such as Seattle, Kansas City, Quebec as well as a second team in the Toronto area.

But, with the league re-structured into East and West conferences, it also mean a difference in the number of teams in each. That's why expansion of at least two teams in the near future seems likely.

Major League Baseball could also benefit by adding two more teams.

The current 30 team structure has meant that on any given day of the schedule, there is game between American and National League teams.  Two more teams would likely  prompt a push for changing the Wildcard play-off to a best-of-three rather than the one-game format.

The present structure of the NFL of 32 teams, in eight-four team divisions is probably the best model of the major North American professional leagues.

It would seem realistic that Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League look at that model in consideration of adding franchises.
