Thunderwolves hockey season right around the corner

It is summer, but only a couple of months from now will the start of another Thunderwolves hockey season.

Coach Bill McDonald has had a busy off-season recruiting year, trying to fill holes in a line-up that had an up and down regular season, but a surprisingly strong playoff.

The new-look squad will hit the ice in pre-season non-conference play on the weekend of September 25 and 26 against the always tough Manitoba Bisons.

Another non-conference series follows the next weekend with Laurentian and then a quick trip to Duluth to play the Bulldogs before the regular season gets started.

The first test will be a key one, as the Thunderwolves travel to Trois Rivieres.

The regular season opener is October 23 and 24 against Queens. The Road schedule is very challenging this season, with trips to Montreal to play McGill, London to tangle with the Western Mustangs, and Windsor all before the Christmas break.

The home schedule will feature the Toronto Varsity Blues, Carleton and Ryerson.

There is also a twin-date against OUA champion Guelph at the end of December.

Although those are non-conference games, they will be a great litmus-test to see how well the team is doing at the turn as they head into the second half.

The season wraps up with two home games on February 12 and 13 with rival Laurier.
