The OPP gave media an inside look at their Thunder Bay dispatch and call centre Wednesday, as part of National Public Safety Communicators week.

Five dispatch centres across the province are the first contact the public has with police officers.  And this week is held to honour the hard work being done behind the scenes.

Locally, the centre reaches thousands of residents across the region.

OPP Sgt. Jamie Ball says the province is opening its doors so residents have a better understanding of how the process unfolds.

He added that it is important to recognize the 58 civilian workers answering calls every day.
