Could fifth murder return infamous murder capital title to city?
By tbnewswatch.com
THUNDER BAY -- The homicide rate in Canada has gone up for the first time in three years, and Thunder Bay is again near the top of the list.
Police reported 598 homicides in 2011, which is 44 more than the year before.
Winnipeg, Edmonton and Halifax all saw a big spike in murder numbers last year, which contributed to the national increase. Thunder Bay actually saw a drop in homicides, from five in 2010 to four in 2011, putting us fourth overall per capita.
But our city may once again become known as the murder capital of Canada, after recording its fifth homicide of 2012 earlier this week.
