RED LAKE, Ont. - A missing boater on Gullrock Lake has been found dead, say Ontario Provincial Police.

According to an OPP media release, officers from the Red Lake/Ear Falls detachments received reports of an overdue fisherman on Gullrock Lake, located east of Red Lake.

An immediate search of the area was conducted but was unable to locate the man.

The Underwater Search and Recovery Unit was called in to assist, along with the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team.

The man’s body was found by the Underwater Search and Recovery Team on June 16 and he has been identified as 51-year-old Douglas Massie of Jefferson City, Missouri.

Police are reminding people to always wear a life jacket while out on the water. Capsized vessels and falling overboard is the top contributing factor to boating deaths every year.
