CALGARY – Krista McCarville may be seeded No. 12 at the 2024 Scotties Tournament Hearts, but the Thunder Bay skip isn’t fooling anyone.

McCarville, with two silver medals and two bronze medals under her belt, stole her way to a 9-5 win on Friday night over British Columbia’s Corryn Brown to kick off her latest attempt to win the Canadian national women’s curling championship in Calgary.

McCarville, lead Ashley Sippala, second Kendra Lilly and third Andrea Kelly made their Scotties debut as a foursome win winning one, breaking open a 1-1 tie with steals of two in the third, fourth an fifth ends, adding one more in the sixth to take an 8-1 lead.

Brown got three back in the seventh to close the gap to 8-4, but McCarville added a single in the eight, all but ending any hope of a comeback bid.

The Northern Ontario rink will take on four-time defending champion Kerri Einarson, wearing the Team Canada colours, on Saturday at 8 p.m.
