THUNDER BAY — A 29-year-old Thunder Bay man has been charged with murder after police found a body in a Pearl Street residence last week.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers arrested the accused, identified as Travis Jacob Loon, late Tuesday afternoon and have charged him with first degree murder in the death of 37-year-old Rusty James Russow.

Police were called to a residential address on the 200 block of Pearl Street on the night of Nov. 17. Responding officers found the victim's body.

In an interview last week, Det.-Sgt. Jason Rybak described the initial call as one of "unknown trouble."

At the time, Rybak said it was likely that any suspects knew the victim.

The case is Thunder Bay's 14th recorded homicide of 2022.

Loon had previously been charged with aggravated assault in a January 2019 incident. He was also one of several people charged after an inmate at the Thunder Bay District Jail was assaulted in September 2019.
