THUNDER BAY — It didn't take long for Thunder Bay Police to lay charges during an impaired driving enforcement initiative that targeted commercial vehicles.
The very first motorist checked by officers Tuesday evening was driving a flatbed dump truck on Arthur Street.
The man allegedly refused to provide a breath sample, and was arrested on the spot.
A subsequent investigation revealed that he had outstanding criminal charges, including one from last year for failing to provide a breath sample.
But there was even more to come.
According to police, they discovered he had a suspended licence, the plates on the vehicle were not registered to it, there was no insurance on the truck, it was not properly registered to be on the road, and it lacked the required commercial vehicle documentation including inspections.
In addition, suspected cocaine was found in the vehicle.
The accused man was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on multiple charges under the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and the Highway Traffic Act.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
