DRYDEN, Ont. – Police are investigating a death in Dinorwic, about 30 kilometres east of Dryden, after being called to a disturbance Thursday.

Ontario Provincial Police would not yet say if they considered the death suspicious or if it was being investigated as a homicide Saturday, but confirmed it was the subject of investigation by the Criminal Investigation Branch.

The deceased has been identified as Richard McLeod of Dinorwic.

Officers from the OPP’s Dryden detachment responded to a call in the unincorporated settlement shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday, where they discovered a male with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also responded to a residential fire on a neighbouring property, OPP say. Both are being investigated by the OPP, while Dryden Police and Treaty Three Police were also involved in the investigation.

Members from the Office of the Fire Marshall, Ontario Forensic Pathology Services - Forensic Anthropology, and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario are also engaged, the OPP reported.

Police are urging any members of the public with information on the investigation to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
