There will be no strike at Thunder Bay's Real Canadian Superstore.
After 15 months of negotiations, a new agreement between the company and the United Food and Commercial Workers has been ratified by union members.
Last night, 98 per cent of employees at the Superstore voted in favour of ratifying the proposed five-year collective agreement with Westfair Foods Limited. Workers have been without a contract since March 2009, and in June they voted overwhelmingly in favour of giving the union a strike mandate.
UFCW spokesman Paul Docherty said the agreement includes wage increases and lump-sum payments for both full- and part-time employees.
Docherty added that it is a fair deal for both the company and the workers.
The new contract with Westfair will expire in March 2014.
